Former Barcelona midfielder Giovanni van Bonckhorst has given his backing to Ronald Koeman as rumours link the coach with a move to the Camp Nou. The suggestion in Spain is that Koeman could become technical director at Barcelona when the new regime, headed by president-elect Sandro Rosell takes office.

Asked about Koeman’s possible appointment, van Bronckhorst commented that it "would be really good news for everyone" if it were true, before going on to joke that "it is always necessary to have at least one Dutchman at the club". Reminded that Johan Cruyff is the honourary president, the midfielder commented: "But that is something else, we talk about the first team, from day to day."

Koeman would surely be a good fit at Barcelona, knowing the club well having played at the Camp Nou during the 1990s and being close to Cruyff. As the new regime prepares to take office its objectives and personnel are becoming clearer by the day.
