Marseille boss Didier Deschamps has decided against opening discussions with Liverpool about becoming their new manager. It emerged yesterday that Liverpool’s managing director Christian Purslow had telephoned Marseille’s president to ask for permission to speak to the Ligue 1 winning coach. However, even after that permission had been denied, Liverpool’s well known interest meant Deschamps at least had to consider his next move.

After discussions with his agent, L’Equipe have reported that Deschamps has opted against pushing for a move to Anfield. The Frenchman is believed to be concerned about several factors surrounding the English club, not least the fact that The Reds will miss out on Champions League football next season.

Deschamps, who is well underway with his planning for next season, is actually believed to be keen to extend his deal with Marseille. The former Juventus boss sees great potential with the south coast club and is confident not only of defending their French title next season, but also making a splash in Europe.
