Japan coach Takeshi Okada has said that he takes full responsibility for the country’s elimination from the World Cup. The Japanese went out in the last 16 yesterday after losing to Paraguay on penalties. The Blue Samurai, like Paraguay, showed little attacking intent, with both sides fearful of conceding what could have been a crucial goal.
"I have no regrets", said Okada. "The players were great. Japan can be proud of them. It is I who am responsible for this defeat, not them."
The Japanese tactician went on to say that he had perhaps not done enough to allow his side to win. However, in the final assessment, the Japanese will most probably be happy to have emerged from what could have been a tricky group and have reached the knockout phase.
