Liverpool are playing down fears that the injury Fernando Torres picked up with Spain in the World Cup final is too serious. The Reds are hopeful that their Spanish striker, who has been plagued with injury since arriving at Anfield, will not be out of action for too long.
Dr Peter Bruckner, the head of sports science at the club, told Liverpool’s official website that Torres will not face a lengthy layoff.
"We’ve been in touch with the Spanish medical team and they don’t think it’s too serious." said Bruckner. "It’s an adductor muscle injury, but they’ve not had the chance to assess it today."
Bruckner confirmed that Torres would undergo the proper scans and his injury would be looked at in detail, but also added: "At this stage we don’t think it’s too serious."
