Inter defender Marco Materazzi has said he will only judge new coach Rafael Benitez after one year in charge of the club, insisting it is too soon to make comparisions with departed boss Jose Mourinho.
Materazzi famously cried when Mourinho left the Nerazzurri for Real Madrid and counts himself amongst the Portuguese’s biggest fans. The Inter faithful will therefore take any endorsement of Benitez by the defender very seriously indeed.
"Do I agree with Benitez?", said Materazzi to Gazzetta dello Sport, "I will judge in a year, just like I did with Mourinho. I’m not used to saying I like or I don’t like after a week because it’s difficult [to assess the changes]."
Benitez looks like he will soon have to make do without Mario Balotelli as the striker edges closer to a move to Manchester City.
