Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has urged Fernando Torres to follow the example set by Steven Gerrard and declare his commitment to the Anfield club. Both Gerrard and Torres have been linked with summer moves away from Liverpool as the club struggle under the burden of massive debt.
Carragher said he believed Gerrard was the side’s best player and his decision to stay had given everyone a boost.
"Well, he’s our best player. For me, he’s probably the best player in the history of the club, alongside Kenny [Daglish], so it’s obviously going to give everyone a massive lift", Carragher told the club’s official website.
The defender then called on Torres to give the same vow to remain on Merseyside as Gerrard.
"Hopefully Fernando will do the same, and we can bring one or two more in so that we head into the season with a real feel good factor."
