Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas looks set to remain at the Emirates for at least one more season after he met with club officials yesterday. The Spanish midfielder was keen to make a return to his former side Barcelona this summer and had been courted by many of their current side. However, the news that he will stay in north London will no doubt be greeted with relief by Arsenal fans.
Barcelona can be expected to return next summer for Fabregas, when a full transfer budget should allow them to meet Arsene Wenger’s valuation of his player. Wenger though will be hoping a strong showing from The Gunners this season could convince Fabregas that his long term future would be better served by staying where he is.
For Barcelona coach Josep Guardiola a tough decision now looks in the offing. Guardiola had set his heart on adding Fabregas to his side, informing the Camp Nou hierarchy that only the midfielder could add a new dimension to his starting eleven. Barcelona’s coach must now decide whether to sign an alternative or bide his time.
