Asamoah Gyan will be staying at Rennes according to the Ligue 1 side. Gyan, who impressed many at the World Cup with Ghana, had been the subject of interest from a plethora of clubs, with Fenerbahce the most serious suitor.
However, the Turkish side were at first unable to agree a fee with Rennes for Gyan and then, following their dumping out of the Champions League by Young Boys Bern, forced to operate on a smaller budget, leading to a more serious move for Marseille forward Mamadou Niang.
Now Gyan will remain at Rennes, although perhaps not for the long term. General manager Pierre Dreossi told L’Equipe: "Rennes broke off contact" over Gyan’s move but "it’s true one day [he might leave] because we would not necessarily refuse a good offer."
