Real Madrid have suffered a blow in their bid to buy Mesut Ozil as Werder Bremen have dismissed the offer put on the table by the Bernabeu side. Jose Mourinho had been hopeful of getting in before Barcelona to snatch Ozil, but any deal now looks complicated.

"Unacceptable" Werder Bremen’s sporting director Klaus Allofs labelled Real’s Ozil offer before going on to tell German news agency SID that it was not "any way for us to start negotiations."

Exactly how much Real Madrid offered for Ozil is not entirely clear, but it is believed in Germany that Werder want at least €16M for the services of their talented playmaker.

Both Real Madrid and Barcelona will have to act quickly should they wish to snap up Ozil and use him in Europe. With Werder Bremen set to face Sampdoria in the Champions League playoff round, Ozil could quickly become cup-tied.
