Hatem Ben Arfa has said he is ready to end his career if Marseille will not allow him to complete a loan move to Newcastle United. The winger, who has had a troubled spell at the Stade Velodrome, was all set to move to the Premier League until Marseille called a halt to the deal, unwilling to countenance the sale of both Ben Arfa and Mamadou Niang.
Ben Arfa told L’Equipe that he simply is not ready to face the season with Marseille, but his chances of a move recede every day as the end of the transfer window approaches.
"It’s over. I am not ready to play this season", said Ben Arfa. "I have my pride, my dignity. I am not a stopgap. I am not a box of washing powder."
The winger then stated that he was "ready for the worst" when thinking about the consequences of his actions.
Ben Arfa’s future seems unclear, but it looks unlikely he can return to work at Marseille after his actions, and especially after stating he does not trust coach Didier Deschamps.
