Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has expressed his disappointment at only ending his first Premier League game in charge with a point. The Reds, who had Joe Cole sent off early on, took the lead through French striker David Ngog, only to see a late goalkeeping howler from Pepe Reina hand Arsenal a 1-1 draw.
"It was a fantastic effort" said Hodgson, clearly pleased with most of what he saw, "but points are hard to come by in the Premier League and when you get so close you can’t avoid the feeling of disappointment."
The Liverpool boss also spoke of Joe Cole’s dismay at being sent off. While the challenge was a poor one on Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny, it was felt Cole clearly intended just to block the ball.
"He is absolutely devastated. It was his debut at Liverpool and a fantastic atmosphere. He was desperate to do well, not playing at the top of his game, but trying even harder to reach that level and then suddenly gets sent off."
