Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has confirmed the club’s interest in Bordeaux playmaker Yoann Goucuff, but believes he will prove to be too expensive for the Ligue 1 side.

Aulas told L’Equipe that, as Lyon splashed out €90M last summer, they could not be amongst the biggest spenders this time around and that meant a deal for Gourcuff may not be possible.

"Bordeaux has set the bar very high [for Gourcuff]", said Aulas, with the price for the French international believed to be €26M.

"Last season we spent more than €90M, it was not wrong, as the club had been in Europe [for years], but with the money spent last year, we’re not going to [be big spenders] this year."

Aulas also commented that he had not heard Bordeaux wanted to let Gourcuff go and that he would not bid if they did not want to and make them "uncomfortable".
