Mesut Ozil has declared that Real Madrid were always his first choice upon completing his move from Werder Bremen to Jose Mourinho’s team. The Germany star was also tracked by Barcelona, Inter and Manchester United, but was clear where he wanted to end up.

"I always wanted to be at the best team in the world", declared Ozil, "and for me that is Real Madrid, who also have the best coach in Jose Mourinho. Coming here has always been my priority."

The Spanish giants could have chosen to wait 12 months for the expiry of Ozil’s contract with Werder Bremen, but with Kaka currently out injured and the German hot property after the World Cup, chose to make their move this summer.

The 21-year-old looked a little overwhelmed at his presentation in the Spanish capital, but that can be forgiven when surrounded by such legends. Real Madrid hope Ozil will soon take his place amongst them.
