Liverpool have completed a deal with Fulham for left back Paul Konchesky. The 29-year-old has signed a four-year contract for Roy Hodgson’s team, keeping him at Anfield until 2014 and will wear the number 3 shirt.
Hodgson has decided to send Liverpool youngsters Lauri Dalla Valle – a 18-year-old Finnish striker – and Alex Kacaniklic – an 19-year-old Swedish left winger – plus around £5M in cash to London to secure Konchesky.
The 29-year-old, who has never played outside the capital in his career, has been chased by Hodgson since the former Finland boss became Liverpool manager. Hodgson will now trust Konchesky to provide better defensive cover than Emiliano Insua and Fabio Aurelio, both of whom could have easily received the Liverpool manager’s backing at left back for this season.
