Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas has been speaking about the transfer saga of the summer as Barcelona attempted to buy him. Fabregas was ready to return to his boyhood club, but explained that when it became clear Arsenal were not prepared to sell him, that was that.

"Barca made every effort to sign me", said Fabregas, "but Arsenal told me to stay."

The midfielder is now concentrating on doing his best for Arsenal, knowing full well that to dwell on what might happen next summer would be to risk a bad season at the Emirates.

"I do not think of anything, because if I think of the future it would not let me focus on the present and I would have a bad year."

Barcelona are expected to return for Fabregas next summer, but seem certain to face competition from Real Madrid for the Spaniard’s signature. Arsenal will no doubt once again though try to hold onto their captain.
