New Tottenham Hotspur signing Rafael van der Vaart has hinted that it was the London club’s participation in the Champions League which helped to make his mind up to join Harry Redknapp’s revolution. The Dutchman was also tracked by Liverpool, but the Reds could not offer the player the chance to showcase his skills amongst Europe’s best.
"I’m really happy to be here", van der Vaart told Spurs’s official website. "We have great players, young players. One of the first I met was William Gallas. He’s a great defender, big, strong, I’m glad I’m on his side."
The former Real Madrid player then mentioned the importance of the Champions League.
"We’re playing in the Champions League as well and that’s a big thing. We’re in a great group with some great teams and I’m really looking forward to playing [in it]."
