Barcelona were shaken in the Camp Nou last night as newly promoted Hercules grabbed a 2-0 win. Bolstered by a number of impressive signings such as Royston Drenthe, David Trezeguet, and Nelson Valdez, Hercules were good value for a win which shocked La Liga.
Camp Nou coach Josep Guardiola made no excuses for his team, despite the fact that the press pointed to Spain’s midweek friendly away in Argentina as a factor that could have contributed.
"We lacked rhythm", said Guardiola, who was refusing to panic, "and have not found the way through and against teams that are so solid it is always difficult. They took the lead, began the second half well, and we were unable to solve the problem."
Barcelona’s rivals Real Madrid only scraped a 1-0 win at home to Osasuna and the big two at present look as if they still have to get into their stride.
