Marcel Desailly’s bid to become the next Ghana coach appears on the brink of collapse over his wage demands. Reports from Ghana suggest that the former AC Milan and Chelsea defender is looking for a salary of €100,000 per month, an amount just too high for the Black Stars.
Former coach Milovan Rajevac was rumoured to want only half that amount to stay on as boss after the World Cup; yet even that much proved too rich for Ghana’s Sports Ministry to sanction.
Now, despite Desailly being the frontrunner for the job and extremely popular in Ghana, there is a real chance that such salary expectations will scupper the deal and the Ghanaian FA are already believed to be considering alternatives such as Bobby Williamson, who impressed with Uganda.
