Bayern Munich’s bad start into the new season seems to be getting worse. After yet another defeat against Bundesliga minnows Mainz 05 yesterday, Louis van Gaal’s team who were tipped as the clear favourites this year, find themselves in 8th position with only eight points after six games.

The Munich club lost 2-1 against the O-Fives at home in the Allianz Arena, with Mainz’s Svensson scoring an own goal in the 45th minute.

Mainz, who are currently surprisingly leading the Bundesliga table with maximum points from six games, have a three point lead over second-placed Borussia Dortmund and are on the path to write their names into Bundesliga history.

After the game van Gaal admitted that Bayern have serious weaknesses to tackle: "We played badly today. (…) Everyone at the club is going crazy as I say this all the time, but we find it really difficult to score goals."

With a Champions League match against Basel and an important Bundesliga clash against Dortmund next week, pressure is mounting on the former Barcelona coach, who was expected to bring home nothing less than the Bundesliga shield this season.
