Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has hailed young Mexican striker Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez after he handed the Old Trafford side victory over Valencia in the Champions League last night.
The trip to Spain was always going to be Man Utd’s most difficult group stage encounter and the game was deadlocked at 0-0 heading into the final 10 minutes. Ferguson then made the decision to throw Chicharito into the fray and it was a gamble which paid off as the Mexican bagged the only goal of the game in the 85th minute to give United a 1-0 win.
"I think what Chicharito did was he brought us penetration", said Ferguson to the club’s website. "Just before he scored he made a great run in behind their defence, and that was what we needed at that stage of the game."
Ferguson went on to salute what he believes is a fantastic result against current La Liga leaders Valencia.
"This is a great result for us as it’s not easy to come here. We have a bad record over a long period in Spain, but nevertheless it’s good to get the win."
