Lyon midfielder Jean Makoun has revealed that Marseille coach Didier Deschamps tried to take him to the Stade Velodrome in the summer. Deschamps was considering ways to bolster the champions midfield and Makoun emerged as a very real option for Marseille.
"Didier Deschamps called me in the summer….I was a solution for the OM midfield, but what he wanted most was a great defensive midfielder in the style of Alou Diarra. And I am under contract with Lyon until 2012", explained Makoun.
Yet while Makoun remained at Lyon, the Cameroon star has not ruled out a possible exit from the Stade Gerland, adding that "a departure is always possible", but stressing he remains under contract with Claude Puel’s team.
