Liverpool have suffered a blow with the news that Fernando Torres is a doubt for the club’s Merseyside derby after the international break. Torres withdrew from the Spain squad yesterday and will miss their qualifiers against Lithuania and Scotland. Now though, his absence could include Liverpool’s meeting with Everton.
Torres limped off in Liverpool’s weekend home defeat to Blackpool, instantly raising fears that the injury-prone striker could face another spell on the sidelines.
"Fernando was assessed earlier today at Melwood and underwent a scan this afternoon", confirmed Liverpool’s doctor Peter Brukner, also stating that the striker has an adductor strain.
"He will have intensive treatment for the next couple of weeks, but it is too early to say if he will be fit for the game against Everton."
