Christian Purslow, Liverpool’s managing director, is stepping down from his role at the club, following chairman Martin Broughton. The duo were crucial in helping to secure the sale of Liverpool to New England Sports Ventures (NESV) earlier this month, but were widely expected to depart as the new owners put their own men in place.
Purslow however, will remain in a capacity as a special advisor to NESV, in a move which has delighted the new owners.
NESV chairman Tom Werner told the club’s official website: "We are delighted Christian has accepted our offer to help us and the club, given his great experience and love for Liverpool FC. We will now begin a global search process for a chief executive officer."
Purslow himself commented that he now saw his mission as complete, having arrived to ensure the club was sold to the right buyer.
