Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp has accused his players of going to sleep in the first ten minutes against Inter in the Champions League last night, before praising them for coming back and, with only ten men, running the holders close.
Spurs went in at half time 4-0 down, having also lost goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes to a red card after eight minutes. However, Redknapp’s team did not crumble in the second period and even pulled three goals back, with Gareth Bale netting a hat-trick that had Inter worried.
"We started badly, the first ten minutes we were sleeping", said Redknapp, "we let them run, then lost our goalkeeper. At half time, we were in trouble, but we showed our minds. Okay, we did not take a point, but we showed character. Bale? Bale is not for sale. He is an exceptional player, he can do everything and is still very young, he has a bright future."
The manner of Spurs’ comeback will at least give Redknapp cause for optimism that his side can defeat Inter when the Italians visit White Hart Lane.
