Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has compared his Greek centre back Sotirios Kyrgiakos to Tony Adams and John Terry as he seeks to lavish praise on the player.

Kyrgiakos has been a surprise since he joined Liverpool under Rafael Benitez and has won plaudits for always giving his best. Hodgson believes that the Greek is also adding an extra dimension to the Reds’ attacks from corner kicks.

"He is making our corner kicks look a hell of a lot better, but we should really be doing much better at corners because we have got one of the best deliverers of a ball [in Steven Gerrard] around", Hodgson told the club’s official site.

"You can see Soto really wants to get his head on it. He is like the way Tony Adams used to be and, before that, Jackie Charlton or how John Terry is now. It’s not that they have got clever movement or they jump higher, they just want to get there."
