Aston Villa boss Gerard Houllier has said that the Midlands club need to strengthen their squad, but he is far from convinced that the January transfer window is the right time to do it.

The former Liverpool manager will still look to bring in "one or two" new players in the winter window though, despite admitting that he does not believe it is the best time to buy.

"I do not like January, because it’s not a good time", said Houllier, before adding, "but I would be blind not to see that in some areas we do not have many options."

And Houllier is looking out for established players to add to Villa’s squad.

"If we spot a really good player with international experience, who can bring something to the team, especially in certain areas, we will take them."
