It has emerged that Manchester City paid less than was reported for Mario Balotelli. "Supermario" as the striker is known in Italy, was believed to have cost City €28M to buy from Inter; however, according to Corriere dello Sport, who have seen a certificate regarding the deal, Balotelli cost Roberto Mancini’s side €21,856,000.

There are believed to be bonuses relating to the deal though, which are rumoured to add another €3M if all the conditions are met. Even so, that would raise the figure to nearly €25M, still short of the €28M that was widely reported.

Inter made clear in the document too that Man City were able to obtain a discount on the player because the 20-year-old wished to leave the Nerazzurri and the club could see no way to keep hold of the striker for the 2010/11 season.
