Benfica are standing firm in the face of interest from AC Milan in Fabio Coentrao. The Portuguese side have already turned down an offer of €20M for their 22-year-old wingback from Bayern Munich earlier this season and remain firm in their belief that he should stay at the Estadio da Luz.

Milan were hoping to be able to do a deal for Coentrao in the winter transfer window, but Benfica’s likely continued involvement in the Champions League, plus a hefty €30M price-tag on the Portuguese means that any move looks very unlikely.

Coentrao has excelled with Benfica over the past 18 months and drawn envious glances from across Europe. While it may not be realistic for the Portuguese giants to hope to keep hold of the player in the long term, they are certain nonetheless, that the flying full back should remain with them for a while longer.
