Having only managed to draw 0-0 away to Deportivo La Coruna last night, after watching Barcelona record a comfortable 3-0 victory away at Mallorca, Jose Mourinho saw the gap between his Real Madrid side and the Catalans at the top of La Liga increase to seven points.

Yet the Portuguese coach commented post-match that he could not criticise his players, pointing out that Deportivo ‘parked the bus’ against his Los Blancos side, who were the only team on the pitch committed to getting the win.

"Only one team played to win", said an obviously frustrated Mourinho after the match.

"The team [Deportivo] has done everything possible to get the point they got. We did everything except put the ball in the net. I cannot criticise my players."

Once again however, French striker Karim Benzema lived up to his inconsistent reputation, missing a clear chance late in the game – a chance which could have handed Real Madrid a 1-0 win. Mourinho will have surely taken note and the Frenchman’s future at the Bernabeu next season is not yet assured.
