Should Luigi Delneri leave Juventus then two names appear in the running to succeed him – Marcello Lippi and Gianluca Vialli.
The 60-year-old looks set to fail to guide Juventus back to the Champions League and, given that the lack of Europe’s showpiece competition contributed towards the Old Lady announcing a loss of €39M yesterday, the situation in Turin is getting critical, with the club desperate to finish in the top four next season.
And Juventus, who currently sit seventh in Serie A, are thought to have grave doubts over whether Delneri is the man who can provide a return to Europe’s top table.
The Old Lady could then turn to either Marcello Lippi, a former favourite who won five Serie A titles with the club, or former player Gianluca Vialli whose only experience of management is with two English sides – Chelsea and Watford – but who nevertheless is highly rated.
The end of season run-in then looks vital for Juventus to be convinced Delneri is still the right man to take the club forward.
