Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has played down the importance of Sunday’s meeting with arch rivals Manchester United, claiming the game represents another three points.

Were Liverpool able to beat United then, following their defeat at Chelsea on Tuesday, the result could be a big blow to Sir Alex Ferguson’s team in the title race. Dalglish though insists the game only matters because it is the next game.

“Every game is very important to this football club, but Liverpool v Manchester United is a game a lot of people look forward to. But you get the same reward from it with regards points. Maybe you get a bit more credit and a few more inches in a newspaper column if you get a result”, said Dalglish.

The Liverpool boss also insisted the game mattered because it was the next game: “It’s the biggest game but only because it’s the next game.”
