Liverpool coach Steve Clark believes that Manchester United’s indifferent away form this season will give the Reds extra belief that they can put Sir Alex Ferguson’s men to the sword when the two meet this afternoon.
With United having lost away to Chelsea on Tuesday night, victory for Liverpool at Anfield would cap a miserable week in the Premier League for the Old Trafford side, and damage their title bid – though not quite to the extent previously envisaged given that Arsenal could only draw with Sunderland yesterday.
"They’re a good team, that’s why they’re at the top", Clarke told Liverpool’s official site.
"Maybe they don’t have the same flair they’ve had in recent seasons, but they’re functional, defend very well and are always hard to break down."
However, Clark believes that United’s mixed away form this season is something that Liverpool can take advantage of at Anfield.
"I would say their away form is not the best – they haven’t won many games away from home – so hopefully that’s something we can exploit."
