Under-pressure Bayern Munich coach Louis van Gaal is to leave the German giants at the end of the season, the club have confirmed.
Van Gaal has been coming under increasing fire for his performance this season with the Allianz Arena club, exiting the German Cup to Schalke and falling well adrift of contention for the Bundesliga title.
And despite leading the club to within a whisker of the Treble last season, bagging the league and cup, and only falling in the Champions League final to Inter, the Bayern hierarchy believe the time is right for a change.
Bayern Munich are still very much involved in the Champions League and hold a 1-0 advantage over Inter in their Round of 16 tie. With the next leg to be played at the Allianz Arena, the Germans have an excellent chance of progressing to the quarter-finals.
This will not save Van Gaal however, who will be seeking pastures new in June.
