Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has admitted that the team have not played their best football this season and instead relied on their unbeaten run – which was ended by Wolverhampton Wanderers on 5th February – to build confidence.
United have led the Premier League almost at a canter this season, as Arsenal have posted roughly the same points total as they had at the same stage last season, and Chelsea have slumped.
"Last season I don’t think we played particularly well and we weren’t consistent enough", explained Ferdinand to Inside United magazine.
"This season we’re still not playing particularly well, but we’ve found consistency in the unbeaten run we went on. That bred confidence throughout the team."
And Ferdinand delighted in the fact that United just keep going and digging out results even when not in the best form.
"We knew we had a lot of resilience in the squad and we always knew that if we clicked into gear during a match then we’d dispose of teams easily."
