Hamburg and Werder Bremen are keen to triumph where Zenit St. Petersburg failed by tempting Sokratis Papastathopoulos from AC Milan.

The Russian giants were ready to agree a deal with the Rossoneri for their Greek defender, but were soon informed that Papastathopoulos did not wish to consider a move to the Russian Premier League – Zenit therefore dropped their interest.

However, the 22-year-old Greek is now interesting both Hamburg and Werder Bremen, who are keen to investigate the possibility of signing the defender from Milan in the summer.

A former AEK Athens player, Papastathopoulos moved to Italy to join Genoa in 2008, heading to Milan last summer. At the San Siro however, the Greek has not managed to establish himself as a first choice defensive option and the Rossoneri are open to his eventual sale.
