Liverpool’s Brazilian midfielder Lucas is hoping that the club can win this season’s Europa League to give him a medal to show for his time at Anfield. The Brazil star joined the Reds from Gremio in 2007 and despite expecting to pick up trophies has so far gone without.

"For me it’s a big competition", Lucas said of the Europa League to Liverpool’s official site. "Maybe some people don’t give this competition too much importance but in Brazil the Europa League is very important for everyone.

"I am looking forward to getting through to the next stage and why not dream of the title? We have a good team, though there are still a lot of games to go and things to improve."

And the Brazilian hopes that the Europa League could end his silverware drought at Liverpool.

"Unfortunately I still don’t have medals, but when you come to Liverpool you come to win trophies and that’s the way you have to always think. When you retire all you have are the good clubs you played for and the trophies you have won."

Liverpool must come from one goal behind against Portuguese side Braga on Thursday if they are to have any hope of completing Lucas’ dream.
