Juventus have added the name of Javier Mascherano to their midfield wishlist as bolstering the middle of the park becomes their priority in the summer.

The Old Lady expect to allow Alberto Aquilani to return to Liverpool at the end of the season unless the Premier League outfit lower their €16.5M asking price for the former Roma man.

And so a slot opens up in the Juve midfield, with Mascherano coming under serious consideration. The Argentine is currently bench-warming at Barcelona, having joined the Catalan giants from Liverpool last summer.

While Mascherano rejected any notion of a move to Chelsea recently despite failing to break into the Barcelona first team, Juventus hope they may have more success, given the Argentine’s wife failed to settle in England.

Another option for Juventus is AC Milan schemer Andrea Pirlo, but what seems certain is that the Turin side are desperate to bring in a top quality midfielder to their ranks having endured another season of painful underachievement.
