AC Milan defender Thiago Silva has admitted he is flattered to be linked with a move to Manchester United, believing the talk to be a great compliment, but for the moment his concentration is fixed upon winning Serie A for the Rossoneri.
The Brazilian has popped up on Sir Alex Ferguson’s radar given increasing concerns over the fitness of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic over the long term, especially as the duo have struggled with injuries this season. Thiago Silva, who has been impressive at Milan, is an option for United in the summer, though the Italians will not be keen to sell.
For Thiago Silva himself, the matter is left to his agent for now though.
"I’m fine at Milan", said the Brazilian, "and I leave these matters in the hands of my agent Paul Tonietto."
The 26-year-old did admit however that interest from United was a great compliment, even if his focus is remaining on Serie A and Milan.
"It’s great to have your name remembered by a club like Manchester United, which is currently one of the biggest in European football.
"Without a doubt, it is a very good career in which I live and I hope to continue progressing. But for the moment, I will not stop thinking about the Italian championship, which has become an obsession for me. I plan to be among the best defenders in the world and play for the Brazilian team and I must fight to the finish by winning championships."
