Marseille’s flying full back Taye Taiwo looks set to disappoint Aston Villa after declaring a switch to AC Milan his first choice.
The Nigerian star is out of contract in the summer and has already expressed his wish to leave the Ligue 1 champions to experience a new league and country. Taiwo was close to moving to Atletico Madrid last summer, but that deal fell through, leaving the full back at the Stade Velodrome this season.
And over the weekend, Taiwo was reported to be edging closer to agreeing to join English Premier League side Aston Villa. However, that is not the case.
"I’m glad the interest is there", said Taiwo to Canal+ acknowledging that there are many options on the table, one of which is believed to be Villa, but the Nigerian added: "and for me, Milan is the number one option."
The news will be a disappointment to the other clubs chasing the player as there now looks little, bar a failure to agree personal terms, that could keep Taiwo from heading to Italy at the end of the season.
