Sporting Lisbon presidential hopeful Dias Ferreira has revealed that should he win the election, due to be held next Saturday, then he will appoint Frank Rijkaard as coach and embark on the task of turning the Portuguese side into a new Barcelona.

The potential president believes that the Catalan side are the model to follow and also that Rijkaard is the perfect choice to implement it, having managed at the Camp Nou.

"We have to choose a template and then choose a coach", said Dias Ferreira, explaining that the Barcelona model and Rijkaard were his preferred options.

Sporting have slipped far behind rivals Benfica and FC Porto this season, and this is a situation the incoming president will be expected to address.
