Schalke goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has played down reports that he could quit the Ruhr giants in the summer. The Germany shot-stopper is considered one of the finest in the game at present and has attracted interest from a whole host of clubs, chief amongst them Manchester United.
But Neuer is not sure that a switch away from Germany would be the right thing for him and has poured cold water on talk of a move.
"I am not sure if moving abroad is the best thing for a player", said the keeper in response to talk of a move.
"I want to win the champions’ shield at least once in my career. I am a German player and I play in the Bundesliga. I really want to win our most important national trophy."
The Schalke man’s comments appear to imply either a prolonged stay with the Ruhr club or a possible switch within Germany, however it is not entirely clear which Bundesliga side, bar Bayern Munich, could afford to buy the 24-year-old.
And the news could be a blow to United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who is known to rate Neuer highly.
