With German outfit Wolfsburg finding themselves close to the bottom of the Bundesliga table, midfielder and "Wölfe" star Diego could soon be the best paid player in Germany’s second division.
According to German media, the 26-year-old who, after a disappointing season with Juventus in Serie A, signed a deal of €6M per year with Wolfsburg in 2010, is eager to complete his contract which sees him at the club for another three years.
Wolfsburg, who only lifted the Bundesliga shield two years ago, are currently trailing in the bottom two and with only 27 points, and relegation appears a real possibility despite coach Felix Magath’s recent return to the Volkswagen Arena.
With their current squad being valued at €120M and owner Volkswagen keen to make further investments in the summer to get the club back on track, Wolfsburg would considerably outshine the rest of the 2. Bundesliga sides who are currently topped by Hertha Berlin with a total value of €30.3M.
