England coach Fabio Capello has called on Liverpool striker Andy Carroll to improve despite the striker netting his first goal for his country in the 1-1 friendly draw against Ghana last night.

Capello had revealed pre-match that he had spoken to Carroll over his drinking, telling him to reduce the amount of alcohol he consumed and focus on his football. Now, Capello has once again tried to steer Carroll’s direction.

"He scored a good goal, but he needs to improve", Capello told BBC Radio Five after the game.

"He’s not the same Carroll I remember, he needs games. I hope he’ll be back to his best for Switzerland in June."

Capello’s wish for Carroll to get games under his belt should be granted with the striker expected to play a big part in Liverpool’s late push for a European spot.
