Newcastle are expected to enter the race for Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez, but must beat off competition from Napoli for the Germany star’s signature.
Gomez could be available from the Allianz Arena outfit this summer for the right price and Serie A side Napoli are confirmed fans of the 25-year-old.
However, Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is also thought to have identified Gomez as a quality replacement for the now-departed Andy Caroll and, with £35M to spend from that sale, would be able to make Bayern an attractive offer.
Gomez’ attitude towards a switch away from the German giants is unknown, but should Bayern fail to qualify for the Champions League, which is a distinct possibility, a move away from the Munich club may not be a wrench.
