Reports from Germany suggest that if Bayern Munich miss out on Champions League football this season then a large spending spree in the summer will be triggered.
When the Allianz Arena giants last found themselves looking at no Champions League football, in 2007, a decision was made to splash out to ensure it could not happen again. And in came Franck Ribery, Luca Toni and Miroslav Klose for big money.
Bayern are ready to repeat the trick, with an outlay of up to €60M being considered in the corridors of power in Munich.
The names being looked at are wide and varied, with Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov considered to be the star who could put the icing on the cake of a fine summer.
Also on the list are Benfica full back Fabio Coentrao, Ajax full back Gregory van der Wiel, Schalke goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, Kaiserslautern midfielder Ivo Ilicevic and another full back, Manchester City's Jerome Boateng.
Whatever happens, the German giants are preparing to make a splash this summer and want to ensure an unstoppable Bundesliga title challenge for 2011/12.
