Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has lavished praise on his side after their comeback win over West Ham in the Premier League yesterday.
United went behind to two West Ham penalties and emerged for the second half trailing 2-0. But the second period saw the Red Devils mount a thrilling resurgence, scoring four times, including a 15 minute Wayne Rooney hat-trick, to run our comfortable 4-2 winners. It was, believes Ferguson, a test of character.
"I think we played like champions today", Ferguson told Sky Sports post-match.
"We kept out heads up, we didn’t lose faith in our ability and it was a great boost to us in that respect. It’s not an easy place to come to, and they’re fighting relegation, but we dominated that second half and it was a real championship performance as far as I’m concerned."
And Ferguson revealed that he told his team they were going to take something from the game, despite trailing; the Scot gave his side no option.
"I said to them at half time, ‘Look, goal difference doesn’t matter now – you’re getting something from this game. The next goal wins the game."
