FC Porto confirmed what was already a forgone conclusion yesterday by picking up their 25th Portuguese league title. And instantly after the 2-1 win at arch rivals Benfica made sure of the feat, Porto president Pinto da Costa warned clubs interested in the Portuguese champions’ players that they would not sell their stars cheaply.

Much attention has been focused on Porto this season as under the guidance of Andre Villas Boas the club have run away with the Portuguese league, not losing a single match all season and confirming their title win after just 25 games.

But Da Costa had a message for foreign vultures waiting to swoop for Porto’s crown jewels.

"The players only go if their termination clauses are met", said the president. "We do not sell anyone at firesale prices."

Da Costa is also confident of keeping hold of Villas Boas, who remains under contract with Porto, calling the coach "a serious person with respect for contracts and, above all, respect for his word."
