Lazio midfielder Stefano Mauri has urged his team-mates not to give up on Champions League football following their defeat to Napoli at the weekend.

The Rome club went down at the San Paolo in an exciting game that finished 4-3 to the hosts and left Lazio two points behind fourth-placed Udinese and six behind third-placed Inter.

But Mauri believes that surging back up and breaking into the Champions League qualification places – the top four qualify – is a possibility and must be fought for every step of the way.

"We can reach the Champions League if we play as we know we can", said Mauri.

"Losing like we did in Naples is even worse because there were some mistakes made by the referee, but we must start again. Fourth place is not far away, surely we need our fans in the next matches."
