Bayern Munich are believed to have identified Danish defender Simon Kjaer as a possible summer transfer target, but may have to beat off opposition from Real Madrid if they choose to proceed.
Kjaer moved from Palermo to Wolfsburg last summer in a somewhat bewildering transfer. The 21-year-old had performed well in Serie A and was attracting attention from bigger clubs than the Wolves, with Liverpool especially mooted as a possible destination.
And Kjaer’s move to the Bundesliga has not gone as planned, with Wolfsburg struggling to maintain their top flight status and also on their third coach of the season after sacking Steve McClaren, appointing Pierre Littbarski as caretaker than then bringing in former boss Felix Magath following his sacking from Schalke.
It would therefore be no surprise to see Kjaer conclude that his future would be better served elsewhere and a switch to the Allianz Arena would surely appeal.
