Reports from Italy suggest Manchester City have entered the race for Udinese’s Chilean winger-cum-forward Alexis Sanchez.
Sanchez has been heavily linked with Inter, Manchester United and Chelsea, with the trio keeping tabs on the player throughout the season. Indeed, Chelsea are thought to have already contacted the Udine-based club with a €35M bid for the 22-year-old.
"The figure is around €30-35M, but I cannot say the name of the team", said Udinese president Franco Soldati in early March.
Now though City are entering the race and according to Gazzetta dello Sport, have let Sanchez’ Serie A side know they are very keen to sign the Chile international. The Eastlands outfit will start at €30M and are willing to go higher to beat off competition from their Premier League rivals and Inter.
And Udinese look to have accepted defeat in their battle to keep hold of the winger, even if the Zebrette do manage to qualify for next season’s Champions League – they currently sit fourth.
"When we saw Sanchez we knew he was strong", said Udinese sporting director Manuel Gerolin, "but he has also matured mentally now too.
"I think it will be difficult to keep him at Udinese. He deserves to go to a great team."
